An Affordable Transit-Oriented Development in the North End

  • The Marwood + Marston development has two components: an existing, historic 53-unit multifamily rental building located at 53 Marston St., and 12 newly-constructed apartments at 111 Marston St., both between Woodward Ave and John R. Street, in Detroit’s historic North End neighborhood. In addition to the new construction units, six apartments were added to the multifamily rental building (total 59 units).

    Develop Detroit acquired the existing building and land as part of a comprehensive $75M+ neighborhood investment strategy, and along with co-developer Vanguard Community Development Corporation, renovated the existing building, constructed new rental townhomes and family flats, and upgraded the surrounding infrastructure.

    The resulting 71 units – a mix of studios, one-bedrooms and two-bedroom rental homes - were financed with LIHTCs and Historic Tax Credits.

  • This is an equitable development project designed to reduce blight, restore the urban fabric, and catalyze market activity within the micro-neighborhood, while preserving existing and expanding affordable, high-quality rental access.
